Vane (very recently) sailed in on the Walrus, the unaligned galleon that cruised uninvited into Kirkwall's bay bearing no nation's flag, and while he can't claim Captain of that ship in particular, a passing observation of the crew tells he's one of a select few that carry great authority with the men. When not aboard the Walrus, Vane can most likely be found at the docks/the port, in the Naval Presence offices, in taverns getting shitfaced/bar fighting, tooling around and sparring with the less fancy people of the Inquisition (too suspicious of the Templars and official looking peeps, give him dockhands and street urchins), Dark Town, etc.

As for quarters, he sleeps and keeps his things in the Walrus, as he doesn't like the idea of it being unmanned and unprotected in a foreign port. Probably takes the captain's quarters when Flint isn't around, because he's a dick like that.

Reputation
  • A pirate captain of the North Seas, allegedly embroiled in some kind of rebellion on one of Tevinter's disputed islands near Seheron. Rumors about the particulars abound. They range from murmurs of a rift on the island of Nascere, talk of either a significant fortune, a cache of Qunari gaatlok or both, a corrupt Tevinter magister, a scuttled slave rebellion, and even an appearance from Corypheus himself. But surely that can't all be true or even halfway true.
  • The name Captain Charles Vane is something with its own infamous renown for anyone familiar with foreign politics, or pirate legacy.
  • The least approachable of the Nascere pirates in the Inquisition, but the one digging up potential recruits to man a ship, and possibly sail back to Nascere in the future. Prove yourself to him personally, or try to get to him through Silver, Max or Flint (first two are better options than the last). Word of this should be easy to pick up on through Dark Town and the docks.
  • Closed off, aggressive, severe, rough. He fits in well with a criminal crowd, seems like he's born to work the docks or wander the streets of Dark Town. Very much wears the air of a dangerous individual, not to be crossed.
Hooks
  • REPUTATION If you're from far enough North (or somehow connected to piracy in Rivain and Antiva), maybe you've heard accounts of the piracy and instability that troubles the Seheron coast and the islands around it. 'Captain Charles Vane' was a name that held infamy enough to frighten foreign merchants before the rebellion on Nascere began, and continues to revolve around the troubles Tevinter is having with the island.
  • RECRUITING Max, Silver and Flint have more flair for diplomacy with allies at large, but they have only one ship and only one crew. Vane will be seeking sailors with the kind of clout that could survive the chaos and violence of Nascere. He's a difficult man to impress, but not impossible, and a good eye for character.
  • THUG LYFE Crime is Vane's livelihood. He'll be looking to get in with local gangs and crime circles. He can hold himself well in that kind of world, and he'll want those connections when they prepare to retake Nascere. Looking for moving illegal product, or willing to sell him some black market shit? This is your dude.
  • SLAVES The first half of Vane's life was as a slave, the second half as the pirate that life made him into. He will always, always, take a slave or former slave under his protection and help them find ways to get to a better life. This is the best, most sure-fire way to get positive CR with Charles Vane.
